Eight O'clock Coffee is the third largest seller of whole bean
coffee in the U.S. Why Eight O'clock? According to legend, the
company came up with the name by conducting a survey asking people
what time of day they drank coffee most. The majority's answer is
the company's name.
Playing on the same idea but giving it a modern/social media
twist, the coffee guys came up with a video called, "Connecting
Over Coffee Through Facebook".
The insight was that 'connecting over Facebook'
is similar to 'connecting over coffee' - "coffee and computers go
hand in hand - these days, people have their mug in one hand and
their mouse in the other", according to EOC's marketing
director.
The idea is a video that shows users how to
create a profile, search for friends and family, and make the best
use of the site's features.
The brand is spreading the word about the video via its Facebook
fan page, tweets, mentions by bloggers and news media and resulting
word of mouth.
The results (according to the company) is that
the video, posted in mid-December, generated positive press and
feedback from brand fans who reported that they or their friends
have become Facebook users with the tool's assistance.
