The MyCSIRO project aimed to provide an enterprise solution delivering personalised and segmented access to CSIRO’s intranet content. This involved the implementation of an enterprise content management system. The objectives of the project were to reduce the total number of intranet sites and technology platforms and focus on delivering targeted quality content to users. Through segmentation and personalisation, content was tailored to suit individual needs and roles, allowing staff access to information and tools which enabled them to perform their roles efficiently and effectively.
We conducted a CMS evaluation process selecting Sitecore as the Enterprise solution best fit for purpose. Tailored links to content were created based on a user’s profile which allowed users to “favourite” pages appearing on their homepage. Menus provided quick access to other systems and business unit pages, dynamic lists of hot topics, popular pages and recently updated news were created, and widgets that a user could select from a gallery were made available.
The popularity and uptake of the new intranet was higher than expected, including a growth in the original project team once staff became aware of and wanted to get involved in MyCSIRO.
- distributed authoring which freed up administrator’s time for other tasks,
- the ability for individual staff to customise their views and
- better access to corporate content and other business units in CSIRO
Over 60 authors have been trained in content publishing and more than 30 enhancements have been implemented. Traffic to the site of internal CSIRO staff is continuing to increase to more than 950 visitors a day and 16, once separate intranet sites, on multiple platforms, have now been migrated.
